Benefits of e-learning for students and teachers.

The Benefits of E Learning

E learning is a learning system based on formalized teaching but with the help of electronic resources. While teaching can take place in or out of the classrooms, the use of computers and the Internet forms the main component of E-learning. The Covid-19 pandemic has changed education drastically forever. With the distinctive rise of e-learning, teaching is carried out remotely and on digital platforms. Research suggests that online learning has been shown to increase retention of information and the changes coronavirus has caused might be here to stay.

My experience with e-learning as an English and Social Studies teacher in Aditya Birla World Academy, one of the best international schools in Mumbai , has been pleasant. Online learning has several benefits – for both teachers and students. Technology provides numerous didactic materials, videos, simulations, and forums, all of which make it possible to learn in a more dynamic way.

E-learning platforms such as Google Classroom offer personalization. Notes and other study material easily were accessible to the students, enabling them to review the material discussed in class at their own pace.

Being one of the best IBDP schools in Mumbai, we offered the children a combination of self-paced assignments, scheduled classes, and flexible deadlines. This served as an advantage to students who wished to pursue their extracurricular activities, whether they be sports, dance, or music. They were given the opportunity to use their free time in the pandemic productively and excel at their passion.

E-learning facilitated effective communication between us teachers and our students. Sometimes, shy or introverted students tend to avoid group discussions. They may be apprehensive about asking their doubts in a classroom. In a Zoom class, they can ask us their questions privately on the chat, or reach out to us via email. E-learning in ABWA, one of the best schools in Mumbai, has made it easier for students with a variety of communication skills and comfort levels to participate in class.

This format of learning has been a blessing - our students have improved their technical skills, are able to download online materials, and communicate digitally with ease. E-learning has also made my fellow teachers along with me, more tech-savvy. We have developed a proficient understanding of digital platforms, and are now equipped with new knowledge and resources that will enrich and complement the curriculum.

E-Learning provided the ability for teachers to track the progress of our students through the use of analytical tools. We were able to better pinpoint the areas where each child was lacking and where he or she excelled, therefore helping us to ensure that their performance is the best that it can be.

Meetings with parents to discuss the progress of their children were scheduled with ease. The time and care were taken to prepare an individualized study plan for any child that was falling behind. The parents also enjoyed a higher degree of involvement due to online school and were able to help their children stay on top of their homework.

Another benefit of e-learning is that it can accommodate a wide range of learning styles. As one of the best IB and A-level schools in Mumbai, through online classes, ABWA supported a variety of teaching methods geared to different learners. Each student has a unique learning style – he or she may learn best by listening, watching a video, or speaking. A well-designed online experience caters to the needs of each of these children as it encompasses interactive videos, class discussions, and games. Kahoot! - an interactive quiz game – is one of the children’s favourite educational online games.

Now more than ever, children have free access to information and news on the internet. They are well-versed in exchanging ideas and concepts with the use of technology and social media. E-learning enables teachers to tap into this realm of constant learning by embracing the real-world application of theory through interactive multimedia in the form of power points, videos, and songs. This is the key to engaging students and pushing them to go beyond what they have learned in class.

All in all, online learning makes it easier for educators to create a unique and valuable experience for their students. Familiarising themselves with the latest technology and learning new management systems can take care of tedious, time-consuming tasks so that they can focus on the parts of teaching that they love most - educating students.
